The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is now conducting an extensive review of the environmental impact of the proposed Pasig River Expressway (PAREX) and ongoing reclamation activities at the Manila Bay.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources is now conducting an extensive review of the environmental impact of the proposed Pasig River Expressway and ongoing reclamation activities at the Manila Bay.

She noted she would come out with an update on the assessment on the proposed P81.53-billion PAREX project of San Miguel Corporation by next week. “Right now what I have been given some latitude to do is to actually present a cumulative impact assessment of the different individual projects. What happened in the past is that the evaluations have been on an individual basis,” Loyzaga said.

Among the considerations for the review, she said would be to ensure the pipes of future sewage treatment plants along the bay will be unimpeded by the reclamation sites. As of last February, the Philippine Reclamation Authority said there are 22 reclamation activities at the Manila Bay.
