The House Oversight and Reform Committee on Tuesday authorized the use of subpoenas to procure records related to the Trump administration’s practice of separating migrant families at the border
The three officials oversee departments that played a key role in the execution of the administration’s “zero tolerance” policy, which ran from April until June. However, a government auditfound that DHS and HHS were blindsided by the initial launch of the policy under former Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
The committee seeks detailed information about the children and families affected by the policy, including the age, gender, country of origin, and “alien identification number” of every child separated under the policy.said the administration separated thousands more children than previously acknowledged. The report found the number of separated children remained unknown because of the administration’s failure to track the families.
Two Republicans crossed the aisle in support of the resolution to authorize subpoenas, Reps. Justin Amash and Chip Roy .
