Pilots are citing fatigue from a shortfall of staff needed for the airlines’ flight schedule as things return to pre-pandemic levels.
“Delta pilots will be picketing at SEA to protest Delta management’s scheduling practices that have caused pilots to fly long and often fatiguing trips,” saidAccording to the union, the airline was given a 90-day window in November 2021 to improve pilot rotations but said the 90 days had come and gone and there were few improvements made.
“While Delta is attempting to hire as many pilots as it is able, it may not be enough to counter poor staffing decisions made before and during the pandemic,” the union stated. The union also stated that having fewer pilots for the increase in flights is “leaving no wiggle room for weather delays and operational strains.”
The union is asking Delta’s management to sit down with it and discuss the scheduling concerns the pilots’ have., “Pilots are mission-oriented and want to deliver the best service in the industry, but we are also humans with limitations. Not every day is blue skies. Weather disruptions and other operational issues can cause flight delays and cancellations. Our customers deserve better.”
