A 28-year-old delivery rider in Johor Baru fell victim to an online love scam, losing RM63,826 after befriending a woman who used a false identity on WeChat. The suspect claimed to need financial assistance for her ailing mother's medical expenses, leading the victim to make multiple online transfers over several months. When the victim requested to meet the suspect and her family, she repeatedly offered excuses. The victim later discovered that the suspect's profile picture belonged to a well-known Hong Kong actress, prompting suspicion and a reverse image search.

ACP Raub added that when the victim later requested to meet the suspect and her family, she gave numerous excuses to avoid a meeting. “Suspicious activities should be reported to the National Scam Response Centre via the hotline at 997. Additionally, the public can follow JSJK’s social media platforms on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok for updates on scammers’ tactics,” he said.

“Eight summonses were also issued for various offences, including driving without a licence and unauthorized vehicle modifications,” he said.
