Donald Trump began his rally by thanking the 'many people nationwide who have poured out their love and support' since he was shot and wounded by an assassin in Pennsylvania
Donald Trump vowed "to fight, fight, fight" - as he addressed crowds at his first campaign rally since the assassination attempt.
The former president was then introduced and expressed his delight at being back in Michigan: "I'm thrilled to be back in the great state of Michigan". Trump added: "I stand before you only by the grace of almighty god. I shouldn't be here. Maybe JD or someone else should be here. Something very special happened. Something happened."
Trump took to the stage in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where supporters had queued for miles, with the line outside the Van Del Arena stretching around three miles and the anticipation building four hours before his appearance. The 12,000-seat arena was already hitting capacity over two hours before Trump and his new running mate JD Vance were due to speak, forcing an early shutdown to entry.
Grand Rapids, the largest city in Kent County, is one of three Michigan counties that Mr Trump won in 2016 but saw a flip to Mr Biden in 2020. It's also an area where Nikki Haley garnered significant support in the Republican primary in February, making it a key target for both presidential campaigns.
