DEPARTMENT of National Defense officer-in-charge Jose Faustino Jr. has vowed to assert the country’s territorial rights in the West Philippines Sea amid the continuous incursion activities of China.

China refused to recognize the ruling, which invalidates its claims within the sea areas falling within the nine-dash line, which is over 90 percent of the WPS. “Our sovereignty is inviolable and we have to protect our territorial integrity...With or without the arbitral ruling, we will continue to protect what is ours. We are in a better state right now that we were 10 years ago in terms of military capability to conduct maritime security and sovereignty patrols in those areas,” he added.

He said they are currently coordinating with the National Task Force on the West Philippine Sea, as well as the Philippine Coast Guard on how to address these incursions.
