Another Deer Park swimmer relishes the moment he's bound for regionals after completing a race Saturday night.LA PORTE - Deer Park High School swimmers claimed first-place times in 20-of-22 races this past Saturday night to easily capture District 22-6A championships in both the boys and girls divisions at La Porte High School's natatorium.
"Fortunately, I inherited a really talented group of kids. They've worked so hard. I know today was hard because of issues that Deer Park and Pasadena's pools had. Fortunately, La Porte was really gracious in lending us their pool. I think everything went fairly well overall. I'm really proud of the kids. I'm really excited at what we can do at regions," new Deer Park head coach Laci Henry said.
For the guys, Erik Pantoja, Xavi Galvan, Allan Galvan, Andres Cruz, Hunner Revia, Ayden Rodriguez, Logan McClellan, Preston Fiala, Levi DelAngel, Preston Fiala and Dylan Butler were at or near the top in their assortment of individual races. In the 100-yard butterfly, Murray needed just over one minute to win the 100 butterfly, Gutierrez was next at 1:06.07. Reyes and Ward touched first and second in the 100-yard freestyle with times of 1:00.95 and 1:02.00, respectively.
Action in the 200-yard freestyle saw Pantoja, Xavi Galvan, Dylan Butler and Bryce Neal going one through four. But Pantoja's 1:55.27 makes him a threat to earn a state berth.
