Selangor Police Chief, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, said police have arrested three individuals to assist in the investigation. “The body was found in a decomposed state. At this time, police are still awaiting the results of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) samples to confirm the identity of the victim.
“However, we believe it (the discovery of the body) is related but we need to wait for DNA, which is expected in a day or two, and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” he said when contacted by Utusan Malaysia here today. The body was found in a river following the arrest of the missing girl's boyfriend and two other individuals. It was taken to Hospital Banting for a post-mortem. On December 21, media reported that police appealed for public assistance in locating the 15-year-old girl, Yap Xin Yuan, who was reported missing after attending a lion dance rehearsal at the Batu 11 basketball court in Cheras around 10.30 pm on December 19. Kajang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof, reportedly said that the police received a report regarding Yap Xin Yuan's disappearance from her family at 2.15 am yesterday. “The teenager (Xin Yuan) was reported to have gone to lion dance practice. After practice, she is said to have not gone directly home but followed her friend to a destination that is still unknown,” he said. He was also reported to have said that Xin Yuan was about 155 centimeters tall, weighed 39 kilograms, had a slender build, wore braces, had long hair, and was wearing a red lion dance costume
