MOSCOW: The death toll from a mine accident in Kazakhstan’s Karaganda region has risen to 35, the Kazakh emergencies ministry said in a statement, reported Sputnik. “As of now, the bodies of 35 people have been found… 29 bodies have been raised to the surface. An active search for 11 miners continues,” the ministry said.
An accident occurred at the Kostenko mine in the Karaganda region on Saturday. Earlier reports said that out of 252 miners, 208 have been brought to the surface, 18 of them sought medical assistance. The Kazakh presidential press service reported Saturday that Oct 29 was declared a day of national mourning after the tragedy.
