Hot, dry and windy conditions could worsen the 82 fires burning across New South Wales, with 16 of those blazes raging out of control.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting damaging winds of up to 90 kilometres per hour for the Snowy Mountains and South Western areas on Tuesday ahead of an upcoming cool change.

As of 9am, there are 82 fires burning across the state, with 16 not yet contained. Today will see hot, dry and windy conditions, with extreme and high fire danger forecast across the state. There is currently eight Total Fire Bans in affect across NSW.NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner Rob Rogers told Sky News Australia there are a number of uncontained fires in areas anticipating strong temperatures and winds.

The Commissioner said there a number of uncontained blazes of concern at Mudgee, the Shoalhaven region and the Snowy Mountains. He added there were also new fires popping up across the state and urged residents to immediately call emergency services if they do not see a fire truck near smoke or flames.
