Monday is the deadline for homeowners to tap into a $50 million COVID-19 relief fund overseen by the Alaska Housing Finance Corp. The program is generous, providing financial relief to homeowners who struggled during the pandemic, said Stacy Barnes, public affairs director for the state agency. The U.S. Treasury is allowing households with incomes of up to 150% of area median income to qualify for the program. A four-person household in Anchorage could have earned $156,450 last year and still qualify, Barnes said.
The application period began last month. More than 8,500 applications had been submitted by Thursday, Barnes said.Eligible applicants must be able to show they had financial challenges directly related to the COVID-19 pandemic, such as a reduction or loss of wages, state agencies said.
