DDB Philippines has apologized to Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco and to the public as it admitted using non-original footage in the “Love the Philippines” tourism campaign video.

In a statement, the advertising agency behind the launch of the country’s new tourism campaign has taken full responsibility of the matter, noting that it was “intended to be a mood video to excite internal stakeholders.” “While the use of stock footage in mood videos is standard practice in the industry, the use of foreign stock footage was an unfortunate oversight on our agency's part. Proper screening and approval processes should have been strictly followed. The use of foreign stock footage in a campaign promoting the Philippines is highly inappropriate and contradictory to the DOT's objectives,” it said.

Among the non-original footage noted from the one-minute 46-second video were the rice terraces that was taken in Indonesia, a silhouette shot of a fisherman throwing a net from Thailand, an airport runway from Switzerland and the sand dunes in United Arab Emirates. The DOT launched on June 27, 2023 its new tourism campaign slogan “Love The Philippines” with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as the guest of honor.SunStar website welcomes friendly debate, but comments posted on this site do not necessarily reflect the views of the SunStar management and its affiliates.
