Davao Oriental Governor Corazon Malanyaon passed away on Wednesday afternoon, the provincial government announced.
The local government said Malanyaon's daughter confirmed her death.
Born and raised in Cateel town, Malanyaon worked as a lawyer, certified pubic accountant and professor before entering politics in 1986. She remained undefeated in politics, serving in various posts as councilor, district representative and governor.In a statement, Rabat acknowledged her as a "motherly, caring and, above all, loving" public servant.
"I am personally grieving for she touched my life. And I know she did the same to many others who are lucky enough to know her," she said.
