In His Image: New Life Christian Stables uses horses to treat special-needs children and veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome.
Vicki Doeringer was so encouraged by the progress her daughter, Rebecca, had made with therapeutic horse riding through the Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities, she wanted to provide a similar service to others.
"You'd be surprised what you can do if you put your mind to it, even if it costs you a little," she said.In His Image has three horses: Hope, Mercy and Miracle. Clients play games with the horses and groom them. Riding has been phased out, but an Equicizer ride simulator remains at the stable, which also has many other activities, such as reading, charades, alphabet bingo, water games and music programs.
"I don't know. I just felt a click, so I said, 'Why don't you just move in? I've got two empty bedrooms.' And they did.""I just think she's got a fantastic program," Villarreal said of Doeringer.In addition to children ages 2 to 17 and veterans, In His Image serves young adults and seniors, veterans' families, small groups and home-school groups.
