Daniel Craig is ready to stir up some family drama
is a modern-day take on the Agatha Christie–style whodunit murder mystery— but it’s also a surprisingly topical political satire, examining illegal immigration and wealth disparity in the Trump era.
. From the very beginning, his main objective was to make a movie that accurately portrays a contemporary America, which meant including the president. “So often when we see this genre, it’s done as a period piece, and I wanted to do a whodunit movie set in America in 2019,” he said. “That meant not just putting modern music or new cars, it meant really engaging what’s happening in our world and our culture right now and that includes Trump. Trump is the president. His actions and policies are affecting us every day. We don’t say his name in the movie, but we talk about him directly.
