'I was crying like a baby,' said Emille Sutt, of her boyfriend Felix Rosenqvist's crash. IndyStar followed Sutt to watch Indy 500 with love.
Andretti Autosport's Kyle Kirkwood explains what happened during his crash on Sunday.INDIANAPOLIS - For a few terrifying seconds that seemed more like minutes, or really, agonizing hours, Emille Sutt broke down, sobbing inside Scott Dixon's motorhome. The tears came on Lap 186 of the Indianapolis 500 when her boyfriend Felix Rosenqvist's car slid into the outside wall, then down the track and was clipped by Kyle Kirkwood.
"I don't even think about that because I feel like my brain is going to jinx it," Sutt said in Gasoline Alley just minutes after the race began."So I'm like, 'Live in the now, live in the now, one day at a time, one second at a time.'""Oh my god, oh my god, so many emotions, happy emotions," said Sutt."Then the accident happened, then I started to cry like a baby.
"We did that for a couple of weeks," Sutt said."And then I thought, 'I'm just going to send the first message and see how it goes.'" Before Rosenqvist, Sutt new nothing about motor sports. In September, she went to her first IndyCar race and realized just how big of a deal this was. And she realized how dangerous this sport could be.
"I woke up terrified," she said."After that, I couldn't go back to sleep. That cannon is just 'bam.'"
