“Prices will start to rise gradually and flights will start to sell out, so it will be harder to find deals the closer we get to both holidays,” said Hayley Berg, lead economist at Hopper.
Thanksgiving domestic round-trip airfare to Dallas is averaging $259 per ticket, compared to $302 per ticket last year, according to Hopper. Christmas domestic round-trip airfare to Dallas is averaging $362 per ticket, compared to $389 per ticket in 2022.that system net sales have increased, while airfare pricing has continued to decline.
For both holidays, popular domestic trips include stops at large cities like New York, Orlando and Los Angeles. Internationally, many are booking flights to Asia for the holidays, because of the shutdowns the country faced during the pandemic. Berg said there is demand for regional destinations including Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.
“We see a lot of people that want to go somewhere tropical, go somewhere warmer, but not necessarily wanting to do a full day of travel that it might take to get to the other Caribbean islands,” Finley said.
