Homebuilders filed 4,044 building permits in January, down 9% from January 2021.Construction permits for North Texas single-family homes dropped again in January, signaling that supply chain issues and labor shortages will continue to affect housing inventory in the new year.
January marked the sixth month in a row that Dallas-Fort Worth homebuilders took fewer permits to start houses than in the previous year. Last year D-FW builders started a record 58,140 single-family homes — up 20% from 2020′s production, according to Residential Strategies. But starts in the fourth quarteras builders concentrated on completing houses already in the pipeline. Most builders have backlogs of sold houses that have had construction delays.
