The company that Dallas County is contracting with to revamp its court case management system has had legal troubles nationwide, and county officials appear...

Tyler Technologies said in a statement that these lawsuits are uncommon and the company takes these complaints seriously. When lawsuits are filed against government agencies using Tyler software, then the company is named as a co-defendant, the statement said.

He said the county clerk’s office is currently finishing up its seventh data check in an effort to minimize errors in the transition. Judicial signatures are not electronic in the current system. Warrants, final dispositions and jail releases are sent through couriers and mail from the courthouse to the jail. Warren said Odyssey allows for electronic signatures, speeding up the judicial process.Criminal cases as far back as the 1980s will be moved over to Odyssey.

“This whole technology is such an evolving field and you think you’ve got it, until you look up and it’s got you,” Price said. “But you can’t keep going down that hole. The few programs TechShare created were not enough to convince most county officials of its worth.

But prosecutors, juvenile courts and indigent defense in Dallas still use TechShare products, Assistant County Administrator Gordon Hikel said. The county plans to continue using these programs, but bring staff to run them in-house. Dallas County also approved a short extension withBecause Dallas was a TechShare founding member, the county retains partial rights to its source codes.
