Dallas County employees missing pay for weeks have filed federal complaints with the U.S. Labor Department.
Sheriff deputies and correctional officers have been shorted pay for mandated overtime, said Sgt. Christopher Dyer, president of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Association. He estimates that hundreds of employees have missing compensation throughout the last five pay periods.
Dyer and Lt. Fonta Boyd, the association’s first vice president, discovered that the new payroll system has also been shorting employees of one hour of paid time off for each day they take. Boyd said the time adds up.Advertisement Dyer said he wishes the county would take more time to hear the complaints from employees. He said they have been told to inform the payroll department of any issues, but emails and phone calls are not returned and the door to the department office is locked.Dyer said he has received complaints from sheriff department employees every pay period since early May.
