Cronulla co-captain Dale Finucane is expected to announce his retirement from the NRL at a snap press conference. The Sharks have announced the 32-year-old forward will front the media at 12pm on Tuesday alongside coach Craig Fitzgibbon. The dual-premiership winner is contracted at the Sharks until the end of 2025 but has been scuppered by injuries in recent times.
His absence comes with Cronulla now top of the ladder following a thumping 42-6 win over North Queensland that saw teammate Nicho Hynes boost his hopes of an Origin recall. Seemingly locked in a race with Jarome Luai to clinch NSW’s five-eighth spot, Hynes’ attacking nous was pivotal to Cronulla retaining top spot on the NRL ladder at Shark Park on Sunday.
