Department of Corrections staff members were administering CPR to a man found unconscious in his cell. The man, identified as 39-year old Antonio Lee Dockery of Northeast Washington, was pronounced dead at 4:10 a.m., according to the report.
The Department of Corrections said in a statement that it was investigating Dockery’s death, as were D.C. police. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine cause and manner of death, the statement said.Court records show that Dockery faced a misdemeanor theft charge related to an August incident at the DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse in Columbia Heights, where he was alleged to have taken items without paying.
Bruce Cooper, Dockery’s attorney, confirmed his client’s death and said he may have had a seizure disorder.
