The playoff victory is the first for Cypress Falls since 2018.
The Golden Eagles rallied from a pair of two-score deficits for the second consecutive week in a game that shared a lot of similarities to the team’s overtime win over Cypress Ranch in the regular-season finale.
“Obviously the first part of the game, we didn’t play very well,” Cypress Falls coach Chris Brister said. “But we’ve done a good job coming out for the second half this season. We’ve been behind two or three times and come out with a win, so I think when you’ve done that before, it helps you in games like this, especially in the playoffs.
The Golden Eagles pulled within one score with 51 seconds to play before halftime as Jakob Leavatts connected with Drake Bright for a 17-yard score. The Golden Eagles essentially put the game out of reach with 2:13 to play as Anthony Herrera picked up a fumble and scooted 64 yards to the end zone after a strip sack by Martin Carreon.
