The contract comes as the county is still weighing whether to build a new jail or renovate the existing facility.
CLEVELAND, Ohio – A real estate consultant hired on Monday may soon help advance plans to build a new Cuyahoga County jail.
In recommending the contract, Nichole English with the county’s Department of Public Works indicated the funding is mostly needed for routine work. But when questioned about how much of it the county reasonably expects to spend before the contract expires in 17 months, she said it “depends on how much work on the jail they have to do.”
A 12-member Justice Center Executive Steering Committee charged with helping to guide that decision previously voted in favor of building a new jail on a property outside of downtown, and even helped narrow a list of potential sites down to one preferred location, but it recently backtracked.of what it would cost to renovate the jail, and council is expected to consider funding that study next week.
