Despite the improvement, Cleveland Hopkins still ranks among the nation’s worst airports of its size, according to the annual assessment by J.D. Power.

Despite improvement in customer satisfaction, Cleveland Hopkins ranks among the worst medium-sized airports in the U.S . CLEVELAND, Ohio –Cleveland Hopkins International Airport still places near the bottom in a ranking of similarly sized airports, despite an increase in customer satisfaction.

For the purposes of comparisons, J.D. Power groups airports into three size categories – medium , large and mega ., ranked fourth from the bottom among 16 airports in the medium category. The three below it: Bradley International Airport in Hartford, Connecticut, Hollywood Burbank Airport in Southern California and Kahului Airport in Hawaii. The top three airports in the medium category: Indianapolis, Southwest Florida in Fort Myers and Ontario International Airport in California.

Michael Taylor, managing director of travel, hospitality and retail at J.D. Power, said Cleveland improved in all six categories from a year ago, with the biggest improvement in security. “Although still below the average for the category, CLE made significant improvement in the time it took to get through security,” Taylor said.Cleveland Hopkins’ biggest challenge, he said, is “simply accessing the airport.

“It has not been an easy year for North American airports, but major capital improvements they’ve made over the last several years and new investments in getting food, beverage and retail operations back up and running at full capacity have helped them manage the crush of passengers,” said Taylor. “While airports are doing a good job coping with the current issues, there is still more they could do to improve passenger experience while also improving their own bottom lines.
