No structures were reported to be immediately threatened by the three-alarm blaze, though Northlake Hills Elementary School staff and students were told to shelter in place. At around 4 p.m., mandatory evacuation orders were issued for residents of Paradise Ranch Mobile Estates and those south of Templin Highway along Upper Ridge Route Road.
Seven firefighters were injured as they battled the wildfire, five of which were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment on minor heat-related injuries. A SigAlert was issued and the 5 Freeway was being shut down in both directions at Parker Road.Helicopters and a fixed-wing aircraft were dispatched to the scene to help douse the flames.The Route Fire continues to burn in Castaic, now reaching up to 600 acres of burned land.
