PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 21 new Covid-19 cases and 18 recoveries on Wednesday (Aug 5), bringing the total infections in the country to 9,023 cases.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there are 196 active cases in the country now.
“Of the 21 new infections, 15 were imported cases involving Malaysians returnees and six were local transmissions, ” he said in a statement on Wednesday. The imported cases were from Yemen and one case each from Papua New Guinea, Ivory Coast and the United Kingdom. From the six local cases, they involved Malaysians with three linked to the Sivagangga cluster in Kedah, two from hospitals in Sabah and another from a hospital in Johor.
At present, Dr Noor Hisham said two patients are still being treated at intensive care units and none of them requires a ventilator.He urged Malaysians to continue practising strict hand hygiene, maintain social distancing and adhere strictly to the standard operating procedures as part of the new norms in life.
