GEORGE TOWN: A total lockdown has been imposed on the blocks of inmates who have tested positive for Covid-19 in the Penang Remand Prison.
The Prisons Department said the Penang Remand Prison is observing a conditional movement control order from Monday until further notice.
Several standard operating procedures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 virus are being enforced, it said.“Conditional entry and exit controls for staff and wardens will be implemented. “Family visits, embassy lawyers, non-governmental organisations and outsiders are not allowed to enter the prison.
“Activities such as courses, community work, sports, leisure and entertainment in the prison and quarters are strictly prohibited,” the Prisons Department said in a statement.There are some 2,800 people in the area, including family members of prison staff.
