PUTRAJAYA: Selangor’s weekly average (as of noon Aug 20) of 6,626 Covid-19 cases is the highest out of all states, according to the Health Ministry.
The ministry also revealed that Sabah has the second-highest weekly average at 2,140 cases, followed by Kedah and Kuala Lumpur .
Other states' weekly average are as follows: Johor , Penang , Sarawak , Kelantan , Perak , Pahang , Melaka , Negri Sembilan and Terengganu . The states and federal territories with the lowest weekly average are Labuan , Putrajaya and Perlis . In terms of incidence rate, Selangor also has the country’s highest with a weekly average of 98.66 cases per 100,000 population.The national weekly average is 62.31 cases per 100,000 population.Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 98.2% of the infections are either mild or asymptomatic cases.The categories require hospitalisation, with the more severe ones needing ventilator support.
Dr Noor Hisham said 82.2% of Friday’s cases involve individuals who are either unvaccinated or have not completed their vaccination dosage.This includes 1,062 cases in intensive care units and 518 on ventilator support.Malaysia’s Covid-19 death toll now stands at 13,713.There were also 60 death cases declared as brought-in-dead .This includes 22 workplace outbreaks, which has 826 confirmed cases.
