KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s Covid-19 cases continue to rise for the fifth day running, with 192 new infections recorded in the last 24 hours.

"For the record, the infections in the past five days spiked from 76 cases to 192 cases today," said Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun in a statement on Saturday.

"The high daily cases are due to rising number of infections in heavily populated areas like Kota Kinabalu, Penampang and Sandakan. " the cases in the state capital today went up by 11 cases while the infections in the neighbouring Penampang district increased by 30 cases from yesterday," he added. Ironically, Masidi said, more districts in Sabah recorded a drop in cases, with 12 districts recording fewer cases than yesterday compared to eight districts that detected an increase in infections.

He added the number of districts that did not record any new infection also increased from nine to noon on Saturday.Masidi said, of the 192 infections on Saturday, 186 consisted of Category 1 and 2 cases while two cases were in Category 3, Category 4 and Category 5 .
