Metro Manila is seeing a continued decline in the number of individuals testing positive for COVID-19, OCTA Research said.

COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region slid to 21.2 percent as of Sunday from 25.2 percent a week ago. The weekly positivity rate in Metro Manila reached a high of 26.1 percent on May 14. The World Health Organization sets a threshold of below 5 percent to indicate that virus contagion is kept under control.

Outside Metro Manila, Oriental Mindoro province registered the highest positivity rate at 55.6 percent. The reproduction number, which measures the capacity of the virus to infect an individual, dipped to 0.97 in the capital region, or way below the 6 percent recorded when the country was hit by the Omicron surge early last year, he added. Hospital occupancy, however, slightly jumped to 29.1 percent on Sunday, from 28.8 percent in the previous week.
