“Police have also issued RM1,000 compound notices to 931 MCO violators, 418 of whom have been remanded, while 25 were released under police bail.

“So far, a total of 9,090 arrests have been made for MCO violations from March 18 till April 13,” he said at a press conference here today. Ismail Sabri said a total of 786 roadblocks were set up yesterday, with checks done on 546,553 vehicles.Ismail Sabri said the police, together with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission had opened 217 investigation papers relating to fake news on Covid-19.

“A total of 23 people have been charged in court and four of them had pleaded guilty to the offence,” he said, adding that 162 cases were still under investigation. He said this was a deterrent action taken by the authorities to avoid people from spreading fake news.
