Magistrate Norhidayah Mohd Noor imposed the non-custodial sentence on the accused, Omar Mat Khatib, who works in Singapore, after the 31-year-old pleaded guilty to the charge read to him.
According to the charge sheet, the accused failed to comply with a medical officer's request to provide information which would help the prevention and control of infectious diseases. The offence is said to have been committed at the Covid-19 screening counter of the Pendang Health Clinic at about noon on March 23.The accused was liable to be slapped with a fine not exceeding RM1,000, or imprisonment not exceeding six months, or both.
In imposing the sentence, Norhidayah provided a choice to the accused – spend three months behind bars or perform three hours of community service daily for three months.The court also directed the accused to report to the Pendang Parole Department daily for three months.
