PETALING JAYA: Malaysia detected 1,453 new Covid-19 infections on Sunday (Oct 9), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,854,976 since the pandemic began.
The Health Ministry's KKMNow portal reported that there were 1,445 local transmissions and eight imported infections.
The portal also reported that recoveries continued to outpace new infections, with 1,800 Covid-19 patients recorded as recovered on Sunday. There are currently 22,772 active Covid-19 infections in Malaysia, with 21,678, or 95.6%, observing home quarantine. The KKMNow portal reported that 967 individuals, or 4.2% of active cases, were in hospital on Sunday due to Covid-19 infections while 37, or 0.2%, were seeking treatment in intensive care units throughout the country.The portal also reported that Malaysia's overall ICU utilisation rate stood at 61.1% on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that two deaths due to Covid-19 were recorded on Sunday, with one classified as brought-in-dead.This brings the total number of fatalities in the country due to Covid-19 to 36,400 since the pandemic began.
