GEORGE TOWN: Penang will not be celebrating the inscription of George Town as a Unesco World Heritage Site this year.
The state has cancelled the George Town Heritage Celebrations and George Town Festival, two of the top festivities in Penang which were slated for July.said the events were cancelled as part of measures to reduce the spread of Covid-19.
"These events gather thousands of families and people who come to enjoy the richness of George Town's arts, culture and heritage. "But it would be most difficult to trace the travel history of participants and visitors. The close proximity would increase the risk of the virus spreading," he said on Thursday .
Yeoh, who is state tourism development, arts and culture committee chairman, said all the programmes planned at this stage would be carried forward to next year.
