PETALING JAYA: Five new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the country on Sunday (July 5), bringing the total number of infections in Malaysia to 8,663, says the Health Ministry.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said three of the five new cases were imported cases, while the other two involved local transmissions.Both the local transmissions involved Malaysians and were detected in pre-screening for operations at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Sabah and a medical centre in Seremban, respectively.

Dr Noor Hisham reported that four Covid-19 patients were released from hospital on Sunday, bringing the total cumulative discharged cases to 8,465.Dr Noor Hisham also announced that two clusters - the Gombak and Pangsapuri Cheras clusters - have ended. "We want to congratulate everyone who has given their service in activities related to the detection of cases and containing the spread of cases related to these clusters," he added.
