PETALING JAYA: There are about 80,000 Covid-19 cases in the Greater Klang Valley undergoing self-isolation, says Dr Chong Chee Kheong.
The Greater Klang Valley Task Force chairman said half of the number monitored by the virtual Covid-19 assessment centre were asymptomatic in Category One, 30% with mild symptoms in Category Two while another 20% showed serious signs.
"The other 16,000 Covid-19 cases under home quarantine showed signs of deteriorating conditions," he told a press conference on Friday . Dr Chong said the Greater Klang Valley area that covers Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Putrajaya and Negri Sembilan, recorded an average of 8,000 to 12,000 new cases on a daily basis over the past week.
Describing the situation as"worrying", Dr Chong said on average about 1% to 2% of the cases require treatments in hospitals or Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres.Dr Chong also said the Health Ministry has increased the bed capacity from 6,000 to 8,000 since the Greater Klang Valley Task Force was set up a month ago.
