KUCHING: Sarawak's new Covid-19 cases continued to surpass the 2,000-mark with 2,414 on Wednesday (Sept 1).

The state disaster management committee said there were also seven new fatalities, pushing the death toll to 533.Of the new cases, nearly half or 1,031 were from Kuching, followed by Bintulu with 174, Sibu , Subis and Betong .

Another 27 districts recorded between one and 92 cases each, bringing the state's cumulative tally to 118,972."There are three cases in Category 4 and four cases in Category 5 ," the committee said in a statement.There were eight imported cases involving individuals returning from Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Kedah and Sabah.The Menuang Baru cluster involved the Rumah Manggi Kampung Menuang Baru longhouse with 70 confirmed cases to date.

The Sebayang-Stalun cluster was detected at the Sabah-Sarawak gas pipeline construction site at Kem 4, Kem Stalun Fly and Kem Sebayang at Long Rayeh.
