The South African Department of Basic Education is facing a legal challenge that prevents it from publishing matriculation exam results in local newspapers as it has traditionally done. The Information Regulator had previously issued an enforcement notice against the practice, citing privacy concerns. The department has taken the matter to court to overturn the notice, arguing for the continued publication with examination numbers instead of identification numbers.
