A Craigieburn home has been sprayed with bullets in the second drive-by shooting in Melbourne in as many days.
A man and a woman, both aged in their 50s, were asleep inside their Excelsior Heights home when they were woken by gunshots about 12.10am on Thursday.“It is believed a number of shots were fired towards the home causing extensive damage to the front of the residence,” a police spokesperson said.
Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton said detectives would examine whether a previous occupant of the home had been the intended target. “The two people who were there, I understood, are completely innocent persons, who are very scared as a result of the shooting,” Patton said. The Craigieburn shooting occurred less than 24 hours after another suburban drive-by shooting in Melbourne’s south-east.An Endeavour Hills teenager was shot through his bedroom window about 1.20am on Wednesday. He remains in hospital in a stable condition. Police have indicated the teenager was likely the unintended victim of the targeted shooting.
