A couple in Johor Baru was charged with possessing and distributing over 14 kg of drugs, including MDMA, Ketamine, and Methamphetamine. They face severe penalties if convicted, including the death penalty.
A couple, Cheng Ee Fei, 32, and Chan Pei Een, 34, has been charged at a Magistrate’s Court in Johor Baru with possessing and distributing drugs weighing over 14kg in total. They were brought to court on Tuesday, January 7, where they were charged with one count of drug distribution and two counts of drug possession. They were first charged with the distribution of 14.42kg of MDMA in a black car at a parking lot at Jalan Persiaran Mutiara Mas, Skudai here at around 12.

They face the gallows or lifetime imprisonment and not less than 15 strokes of the cane if convicted. The couple were also slapped with two counts of drug possession - 24.58g of Ketamine and 2.75g of Methamphetamine respectively - at the same time and place. Both charges were framed under Section 12(3) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a maximum fine of RM100,000 or a maximum jail term of five years, or both if found guilty. Magistrate Hidayatul Syuhada Shamsudin fixed March 7 for next mention and the submission of chemical reports. On January 1, Johor police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar told a press conference that the couple were believed to be waiting for a buyer when they were arrested with drugs worth RM2.4mil in their car. They were believed to be part of a drug gang that stays on the move with vehicles used for both storage and distribution
