Police in Selangor, Malaysia, have arrested a couple suspected of defrauding a woman seeking to change the charges against her husband, who is a comedian. The couple offered assistance in reducing the charges in court but failed to deliver, leading to a police investigation and the couple's arrest.
Police have arrested a couple in their 20s in connection with a case of fraud involving the offer of assistance in changing the charges against a comedian's wife. The arrests were made at their home in Salak Tinggi, Sepang, Selangor, last night. Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the couple were remanded for three days (the husband) and four days (the wife) to assist in the investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
He said that so far, three individuals, including the comedian's wife, have been interviewed to assist in the investigation. Previously, media reported that police received a report from a 33-year-old woman regarding allegations of fraud involving the offer of assistance to change the charges against her husband in court. Hussein was quoted as saying that the victim met a 28-year-old woman last December to discuss her husband's problems and was offered help to reduce the charges in court. The victim then made payments totaling RM95,180 into two bank accounts but failed to receive the promised assistance from the suspect
