The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said Providence City Council member and finance chair Helen Anthony was hit by a vehicle near the entrance to a state park and has major injuries.

CHP said Anthony was walking near the entrance of Point Lobos State Natural Reserve at about 9:10 a.m. Saturday along the Pacific Coast in Monterey. They said she was in a crosswalk when she was hit by a 2013 Polaris driven by an 82-year-old man. They said it isn’t clear if the driver was a park employee or a volunteer.She’s been a great member of the Providence City Council and I’m wishing her a speedy recovery and hopefully she’s going to be back here in Rhode Island soon,” said Lt. Gov.
As chair of the Finance Committee, Helen has done incredible work stewarding this year’s budget process. We’ve worked closely on the budget proposal, and her commitment to transparency has been paramount over the last six weeks,” Miller said in a statement. A City Council spokesman said the budget can still pass out of committee if three members are present.
Anthony is an associate at Handy Law in Providence. She is also an active member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church.CHP said drugs and alcohol are not suspected in the crash, which is still under investigation. So far, the driver hasn’t been charged.
