Jeimer Candelario has had a strong year with the Nationals, making him a prime addition for a contender.
It’s worth noting that in his seven-plus seasons, Candelario has never topped 19 home runs and his career-high batting average in a full year is .271. He has a career .243/.324/.411 slash line. He was also non-tendered by the Tigers last season after he went .217/.272/.361 with 13 home runs and 50 RBI in 124 games.
The veteran is not a perfect player, but he has three things in his favor right now: he’s on a one-year deal, he’s producing and he will likely be available because the Nationals are rebuilding. FanGraphs mentions the Los Angeles Angels, Miami Marlins, Philadelphia Phillies, Milwaukee Brewers and Arizona Diamondbacks as potential fits.Donaldson, 37, is batting .152/.232/.465 with 10 home runs and 15 RBI in 32 games. LeMahieu is batting .220/.285/.357 with seven home runs and 27 RBI in 76 games. While third base has been a soft spot for many teams this year, the Yankees’ third base OPS is .623, 27th in MLB.
They have also struggled against righties on a whole, posting a wRC+ of 92, 26th in baseball, with the 22nd OPS. Candelario is batting .274/.347/.525 against righties this season.
