KUALA LUMPUR: The corporate sector needs to invest in cybersecurity policies that are appropriate to their companies’ level of operations, says Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil. He said feedback from players in the sector showed that many companies in Malaysia did not see the importance of investing in cybersecurity.

“As the digital economy will contribute 25.5% of the gross domestic product by 2025, there is no doubt that one of the most important aspects, apart from the digital economy itself, is the aspect of cybersecurity and data protection. “Hence, as a result of tonight’s meeting, there is a need to hold a more extensive discussion with the corporate sector, and also possibly through professional bodies that represent companies, to create awareness about cybersecurity,” he told Bernama after attending the Cyber Security Industry Town Hall session organised by CyberSecurity Malaysia here on Thursday evening. Also present were his deputy Teo Nie Ching and CSM chief executive officer Datuk Dr Amirudin Abdul Wahab. Fahmi said through the townhall session, he hoped that the cybersecurity sector would continue to support CSM to formulate, plan and implement cybersecurity measures in the country.
