KUALA LUMPUR: Despite being offered a RM21,000 bribe to release a suspected drug pusher, two policemen rejected the money and maintained their integrity as law enforcers.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai said on Aug 12, police arrested a 24-year-old man near Jalan Ipoh for suspicion of distributing drugs.
"We found 13 plastic bags, believed to contain about 168.66g of methamphetamine and another three bags with suspected heroin, weighing 2.92g.ACP Beh said the suspect was remanded until Aug 19 to assist in investigations. "At around 12.30am on Aug 13, the suspect's 22-year-old fiancee offered RM21,000 to Insp Liaw Ken Yeh and detective Sjn Zulkifli Nordin as a bribe to release him.
"The woman was warned that it was an offence but she was still adamant, leading to her being arrested for bribing the police," he said. ACP Beh said the woman and the seized amount had been handed over to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for further action."Hopefully, this will increase public confidence towards the integrity of the police force," he said.
