KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a labourer for allegedly extorting money from an elderly man.
"The victim, a 64-year-old man was at his shop at Pandan Perdana food court along Jalan Perdana 9/10, Pandan Perdana when he was approached by the suspect.
"The suspect threatened to damage the shop if the victim did not pay him RM100 protection money," he said in a statement on Wednesday . He said the suspect also kicked some of the items at the shop and threatened to beat up the victim if he did not comply. "Based on information received, police arrested a 41-year-old man who works as a labourer at Pandan Perdana at around 12.05am on Aug 23.
"Checks revealed the suspect had a prior record for crime and drug offences," he said, adding that police also seized a mobile phone."The case has been classified as extortion," he said.
