Muslims make up 42.5 per cent and Christians comprise 39.8 per cent of the country’s estimated 29.4 million inhabitants. The latest Vatican statistics put the Catholic population at 7.4 million. His message, which was put on COSIM’s Facebook page, received thousands of comments. The vast majority of them welcomed the sheik‘s words. But a number of Muslims said they were outraged to see their religious leader extend Easter greetings to Christians.
