More than RM2.1mil worth of smuggled fireworks, cigarettes and liquor were seized by the Customs Department during a series of operations at Taman Bukit Indah and Kulai here.
The contraband items were confiscated during the operations, which ended on Monday, said state Customs director Datuk Mohammad Hamiddan Maryani. “The first seizure was made during a raid last Friday at a two-storey house in Jalan Indah, Taman Bukit Indah. We found liquor, fireworks and cigarettes,” he added.
“All the confiscated items are worth RM79,719 with taxes valued at RM461,917,” he said at a press conference at Menara Kastam Johor Baru yesterday.The second and third raids were conducted on Monday. During a raid at 6.40am at Kampung Sri Paya, Kulai, Customs officers stopped a lorry for inspection, which was carrying cigarettes valued at RM80,000 with unpaid taxes worth RM668,000.They seized the vehicle where they found 114 boxes of cigarettes with the brand name VSON Virginia Blend worth RM91,200.
