U.S. Navy veteran Putnam will turn 105 Monday. His good friend and fellow World War II veteran George 'Truman' Waters will turn 102 Monday.

celebrated their shared June 12 birthday with large cakes made by Mary McClanahan and a gathering of the weekly breakfast group at the Poplar Business Park in Conroe.

“I’m very lucky to have lived this long. I’ve had a great life with a wonderful wife,” Putnam said as he enjoyed breakfast supplied by Vernon’s Kuntry Katfish. “I never made a whole lot of money, but it was a comfortable living.” Putnam, who lives in Conroe, was born on June 12, 1918 in Bismarck, North Dakota. He grew up during the Great Depression and he said his mother had a rough time raising he and his brother.

“The really have spent their life in service to people,” Chancy said. Putnam credits his many years to his hearty pioneer blood, his loving wife and good food they raised themselves.Conroe filmmakers hiring 100 actors for TV series on the dangers of teen drinking and drivingWaters had just turned 21 years old and had been working at an aircraft repair shop in Alabama when he was drafted into the war. He would participate in training and tests in various locations, including in Las Vegas.
